An Exemplary Information System and Methodology for the Integrated Management, Analysis and Dissemination of Digital Cultural Heritage Data coming from the rehabilitation of the Holy Aedicule of the Holy Sepulchre Project
The monitoring, evaluation, documentation, digitization and study of Cultural Heritage (CH) are basic research activities in the scientific field of its protection and promotion. These functions help the scientists and agencies involved to assess the conservation status of the monument, to assess the impact of restoration interventions and to assess the deterioration of materials over time. The participation of many different disciplines and specialties, with different requirements and needs, in the field of cultural heritage protection and restoration of its monuments, makes the maintenance of a corresponding scale of digital data insufficient, let alone costly and time-consuming.
The RESPECT program addresses these issues by proposing a standard holistic framework for the management and analysis of digital Cultural Heritage data, which facilitates the exploitation of data and knowledge for all scientific disciplines and will assist its managers in making critical decisions for the monuments of cultural heritage. After all, the scientific approach to matters related to the protection of the PC requires compliance with the principles of quality control in maintenance and restoration, through the recording of all the procedures performed and through actions that minimize the causes of unsatisfactory performance based on standards and regulations in order to limit the errors and enhance the effectiveness of maintenance interventions. In this case, the application of systematic methods and procedures for the acquisition and organization of the data enhances the extraction and exchange of the data, minimizing the risks of overlaps, facilitating and therefore strengthening the cooperation between the experts in this field.
The RESPECT platform has been built on the specific needs and requirements of the data sets resulting from the ongoing maintenance and restoration of the Holy Tomb of the Holy Sepulcher of the Panieros Church of the Resurrection in the city of Jerusalem.
